Lebbeus Woods

Woods work in general is very futuristic and the set up of the scenes in his work always seem very realistic. The object itself is the thing that makes the drawing futuristic.


This is a work by the Artist Lebbeus Woods. The sculptural object in the image appears to be a mixed version of an insect and an aircraft climbing up rocks or a cliff. A biomorphism of living animal and machine. It seems to be constructed out of some kind of metal. A support structure is visible holding the object in place. This object is resisting gravity through the support of a help structure, so it is resisting forces and energies by not being in motion.

This drawing shows some kind of aircraft crashing and deforming through force. Gravity is pulling the aircraft towards the ground and this causes the shape of it to change, bend and squished. This time the background and the environment is alot more extended and detailed showing a city scene, the aircraft crashing in between rows of houses casting a shadow onto the houses on the left! This indicates natural lighting as there is only one shadow. The aircraft seems also to be constructed out of metal that is already rusty. There seems to be some kind of wire frame that surrounds the aircraft. The aircraft itself creates a force going downwards through gravity pulling it.
