Another Version of the Final Layout

This version of my final drawing is just to show another exploration in the process of creating different layouts. I still tend to make sure that the high swing on the top part of my drawing is near the edge of the paper as I want to keep the dynamic high within the layout and the drawing

Final Layout of the Final Drawing!

This is the final layout for my drawing. I chose to sit the drawing of centre of the page because i think it helps the dynamic of the drawing more than putting it on the middle of the page. The higher swing at the top part of the drawing seems to almost swing against the corner or side of the page. You almost think it is going to leave the page when it bounces back due to the chandelier being attached to the ceiling.

My Final Drawing and Variations

This is my Final Drawing for Project 1. It conveyes a quite realistic representation of forces acting upon my chosen object, the chandelier. The long arrows show the fall of the object and the multileader following is the pull-back force then moving into swinging. To indicate the swinging I used arrows created with a spline, a curvy line. To indicate the rotation i used straight arrows in a circle-like position. The distances between the max swings become less and in the end the chandelier rotates until still stand. I based this drawing on my chosen drawing from the earlier classes. I like this drawing as i think it is aesthetically appealing and the multileaders show the way of the forces.
This drawing i called 'Lilyworld' as it reminds me of an animation short film i saw recently, where there were massive floating pieces of soil, where strange creatures live. This is done through rotation and copy/paste of my final drawing and placed within a wide white space. This floating of such heavy mass would only be possible if there would be no force at all. Just like the universe....

This drawing is an extension of the 'Lilyworld' drawing from above. Multiplying the 'Lilyworld' and rotating the single pieces plus some more Multileaders or arrows added to indicate the feeling of force within a world of no force....

More Drawings evolved from the first Series

I personally realy like this drawing. It is created through using the rotation and displacement functions in the programme. I used the second to last vector drawing from the first series of drawings to create this one. It reminds of birds flying in the sky and birds have to deal with forces every day, such as the forces of wind and even weather.

This drawing derived from the multiplication of one of the earlier drawings. Accumulating the shape and creating different shapes combined with the insertion of more multileaders, continuing the idea of forces and energy. Again the notion of birds comes to me when I look at this drawing.

Project one: Drawing_04 and the first Drawings

Another different idea how to display the forces acting on the object. This time it is alot more graphic and drawn ina square and edgy manner. The smash at the end is an extension of the narrative of the forces, it breaking into thousend pieces. In this case the force of the object wildly swinging was to much fore the rope or cord that is attached to the chandelier and it ripped. Gravity finishing the job, pulls the chandelier towards the ground causing it to smash.

This drawing is an exploration with the different options of creating Multileaders. Broken, thicker or thinner lines are a possibility. The forces again are not quite accurate but it still portrays the same idea of the chandelier dropping and swinging wildly.

This version of the drawing from underneath is a complexer version of the chandelier being pulled down by gravity and pushed by it's mass. It is not quite realistic, as there is no indication of the slowing of the chandelier. But it is an exploration in the aesthetic of the upcoming final drawing that will be submitted for project 1.

After the last drawing i realized that through the pull back of the fall, the chandelier would possibly start rotating. This idea was explored in this Drawing. It reminds me of a butterfly. Unfortunately I also noyiced that the heads of the multileaders did not show up..... Design only black in colour.

This drawing is the start of a series of drawings and developments deriving from my chosen object, the chandelier and my chosen drawing from the outside drawing session at the creek. I imagined that the chandelier would drop from above hanging on a cord or something similar, swinging until stand still. At first the chandelier drops and once the cord has stretched, the chandelier experiences a forceful pull back, moving into forceful swinging and slowly getting slower until it comes to a halt. Learning how to create arrows or also called Multileaders on the AutoCad programme was the main challenge in this work. Playing around with colours and designs.

Forces and Energie: Research, Photos and Drawings

The Ist Chandelier Drawing

This drawing is the translation from my vector drawing done at the creek. The force recorded was now put on the chandelier, my chosen object from the course outline. The broken down drawing from the force is visible in the background. This is only an indication of what the final drawing mite look like. This is the base for starting Drawing_04 and_05.

Chosen Drawing for Project 1

I chose this drawing to create an AutoCad drawing for Project 1. I like it as it shows a type of rapid that seems to be common within the web or system of the stream. It shows the force of gravity and pushing of the water. This drawing was made trying to break down the web of rapids towards the end of the class.

Forces: Research

Unknown Artist No1, Stairwell-light graffiti

This image is a manipulated photograph. Curvy shaped stripes of light surrounding a structure constructed out of concrete and metals, are forces that make their way through space. I like this work as it shows alot of dynamic and the mixture and play of coulour adds to the idea of force. This is because the stripes appear like lights of cars on the street, when changed into 'fast motion' on tape, a manipulation in the sped of time.

Unknown Artist No 2, Dangerous Games, 2001-03, painted Bronze

This image is an interesting one. The white figure on the little black podium is a boy who's arms have been displaced to a different part of his body. The other body parts also seem a bit twisted. With one hand he's holding up some kind of elongated object. His whole body position on the other side is directed against the forces of gravity. this indicates that this work is made out of a stable material that can go against the forces of gravity such as bronze and other metals.

Unknown Artist No3, Rubberjohnny

This work has a very strong concept of forces on the human body. A person has been squished and bent into place so that the head is not visible anymoreand nither are his features or neck. Even the ribcage seems kinda out of place. Forces acted upon the body of this person but it is not necessarily gravity itself but forces actinf upon the body from the top, pushing and deforming the bones and skin until inability of recognition. This work grabed my attention immidietly as it seems impossible to bend someone into such a position without breaking the bones and blood exiting the body.

Drawing_03

This is the site where we decided to record forces upon nature and water in class time just nearby our studios. These rapids seem small and uninteresting but are part of a complicated web of forces acting upon each other and the site itself. A medium size waterfall was also just further up from the stream influencing the speed and impact of the mostly flowing water.

Drawings...........

These Drawings represent single rapids of flowing water in a small creek or river. The arrows are vectors and represent different amounts of force upon an object in this case the water.

Depending on how strongly or lightly the arrow is drawn the acting force upon the water changes. I tried to use different kinds of arrows or vectors and also experimenting with scale and different patterns of arrows. But they are drawings of single parts of the rapid system so they could easily be extended as other forces in nature would act upon these. The small drawings could easily stand by themselves and it would still be interesting looking at them. This is because these arrows make a force apparent that we usually don' t see or pay attention to.

This Drawing represents one or a single rapid, but a group or formation of forces acting upon each other as well as the water itself. Again the thickness and way of drawing represents the strength of each force or energie, as well as the aesthetic of the vectors themselves.

These drawing underneathe shows the force pushing the water down and then pressure pushing it back up causing white riffles n the creek. The squiggly, lightly drawn arrows represent the water slowing down and starting to flow. It indicates the decrease of the forces.

This Drawing was one of my 1st ones and i didn't quite understand the concept of vectors. Suprisingly i was able to create a drawing with my own coding and system. The more roundly shaped blobs, strongly drawn represent the reflection of some of the rapids at the time when the water is pulled downwards by gravity (a sunny day). The strongly drawn lines coming out of the shapes, is the water being pushed away from gravity through force. Lightly drawn vectors show indicate the water flowing around rocks etc.

Another one of my 1st ones. again i didn't use vectors but a similar coding like the drawing above, forces acting upon water in alimited space (unless rise of water level).

Later on, I translated the Drawings above into a drawing with vectors or arrows, which helped me to understand the concept of drawing force.

More Drawings from the Session at the Creek!

This drawing is a translation of the all-over drawing you see above. It represents a part of the creek system holding about 5-6 rapids. Again I tried to differentiate between thicknesses and types of arrows. It was very hard to follow the system of the water flowing around the rocks and through the rapids. It's amazing how water can change from flowing to rapid back to flowing in such a short amount of time.
I like this drawing. It shows 3 ways of drawing the same rapid. I tried using different types of arrows as well as different lengths and thicknesses but the top one is more accurate when i'm thinking back to the rapid I was drawing. The lines that were already on the refill give the drawing a different feel to what it would have been if it was plain white paper. Vertical lines that collide with the drawn horizontal lines.

Drawing_02, Excercise 4

My fully three-dimensional object created through playing with scale, rotation and placement and displacement. This drawing reminds of a spaceship or some kind of hoovering or flying object and was done in AutoDesk AutoCad programme. You can see the full body, zoomed out to see the whole of the drawing.

This is the wire frame of my constructed drawing. Due to the many objects involved in it it is hard to actually make out the inner structure of the piece. We can only imagine the complexity of the wire frame. The different angle of view shows the 3D quality. This image has also not undergone the process of rendering just like the image above.

A rendered version of the object stil floating in space but this time in a different kind of environment. A ground is now visible and makes the ship look like it's hoovering along the scene. The background or the Horizon looks like a morning on a sunny day, but here the su has not quite passed the horizon line. The shadow does indicate some form of lighting.

Drawing_02, Excercise 3

The rendered version of the drawing below, is done with the 'Flamingo' rendering program accomodating the Rhinoceros Digital Modelling programme. A virtual environment and a materilistic illusion of the object itself. It is just a quick play of options and materials offered within the programme.

My version of one of Kazimir Malevich's work concerned with three-dimensional cubes or shapes. This drawing was created in Rhinoceros, a 3D modelling programme. An accumulation of boxes in different sizes and volumes make up the skyscraper aesthetic. Very unregular positioning of the squares. No rendering applyed.

Lebbeus Woods

This drawing by Lebbeus Woods shows a morphism of a rock sculpture looking rock and an aircraft in a complete design. It almost looks like an apartment house from the future. Woods work in general is very futuristic and the set up of the scenes in his work always seem very realistic. The object itself is the thing that makes the drawing futuristic.

This is a work by the Artist Lebbeus Woods. The sculptural object in the image appears to be a mixed version of an insect and an aircraft climbing up rocks or a cliff. A biomorphism of living animal and machine. It seems to be constructed out of some kind of metal. A support structure is visible holding the object in place. This object is resisting gravity through the support of a help structure, so it is resisting forces and energies by not being in motion.

This drawing shows some kind of aircraft crashing and deforming through force. Gravity is pulling the aircraft towards the ground and this causes the shape of it to change, bend and squished. This time the background and the environment is alot more extended and detailed showing a city scene, the aircraft crashing in between rows of houses casting a shadow onto the houses on the left! This indicates natural lighting as there is only one shadow. The aircraft seems also to be constructed out of metal that is already rusty. There seems to be some kind of wire frame that surrounds the aircraft. The aircraft itself creates a force going downwards through gravity pulling it.

Len Lye, Newzealander!

This work by Len Lye is a sculptural work as well as a spacial one as the tree-like sculpture is influenced by the forces and energies that act within the environment. It looks like a gallery space of some sort. I like this art work as it reminds me of a lamp i used to have. It looked exactly like this object in the middle of the room and whenever someone opened a door or some kind of wind entered the room, the bendy, cable-like sticks would move and weap in the wind. A force in the environment caused the movement.

'Wind Wand'

This sculpture made out of new age materials is designed to spend it's life outside exposed to wind and weather conditions, hence forces and energie. The red pole seems to be made out of a stable, rubber-like material that is able to move in the wind and resist against the energies. It almost reminds of a fishing rod but the end of the pole seems to be a plastic ball attached to the tip of the sculpture! The site of the work is quite exposed and open spaced. I like this work as it is ever changing and most probably never exactly stable, which i think adds a certain intruiging aspect to the work.

'Blade'
This photograph is a work called 'Blade'. It resumes it's name out of the action of the ball depicted in the photo or documentation of the event. The picture is quite blury indicating movement and energie acting upon th ball that actually is attached to some kind of wire.
The object is being forced through a limited space which is apparent through the black areas on the outside of the photograph. this work grabbed my attention as it depicts a fleeting moment of force in time, captured through photography.

Marcel Duchamp and his classic works

'Nude descending a staircase' and Duchamp's 'Bicycle wheel'

This work by the Precedent Marcel Duchamp is one of the most known artworks by this Artist. He depicted a nude person, impossible to actually make out the figure, descending on a staircase. This painting comes close to cubism and it shows the movement of the figure by drawing the body parts in a repetitive manner. This work is a documentation of a fleeting monment, a technique that usually comes with photography. Duchamp was a man of the Dada period but he more was a man before his time. His works fit very well into the later art movements of the mid 20th century, rather than around the 1st world war.

This very classic work of Duchamps is called the 'Bycicle wheel' and is made out of a stool and one bycicle wheel, that is attached to the stool upside down. It conveyes a notion of force and abstractivity and this work shows the overly huge influence that this Precedent has on art even stil today. I like this work as i am into art that works with found elements as i personally find it more of a challenge to compose a structure or composition. The forces are put on the wheel when for example someone pushes it and causes it to move as force is created by the pressure put on by the hand or thing touching the wheel.

Marcel Duchamp: 'Unhappy Readymade'

This Artwork is an artwork that has actually never been carried out by Marcel Duchamp himself, but by his sister 'Suzanne' who he asked to carry it out for him. He posted a book and instructions to her home and told her to hang it outside her porch or somewhere where it will be exposed to the conditions of everyday weather. She did so and throughout time the book got soaked and rained on, shaken in the wind and the print faded due to sun exposure. I think this is a very interesting work as it deals with the notion of the force that weather has on objects or even living things. It had an unforseen ending not knowing how strong the force of weather will and can be and if and how well the book was going to survive this kind of force!

The book was left there for a month but documented after and maybe even during the act!

"UNPREDICTABLE"

Marcel Duchamp

'La-Grande-Verre'

This work is based on the drawing underneath and was translated into a different context as materiality changed into glass and the format of a door. the Drawings show forces acting upon objects and this is displayed through some kind of vector drawings integrated in between the machine drawings. I do like this work because it is different from the other works that i collected. A very pictorial work and 2D based drawing...

This version is the paper drawing of 'La-Grande-Verre' you saw above. the vectors come out alot clearer on this part of the work and helps to identify the drawings better.

Another machine in comparison to daniel Liebeskind's work

Daniel Liebeskind This Drawing by Liebeskind looks like it is made with watercolours and it consists of square shapes. people added to the scene makes it alot more real and there actually appears to be a 3D space.
I like this drawing. It is very linear and constructed out of some kind of pipes that make up the building-shaped pile of bars.it seems to be floating in place as the drawing doesn't really have a bachground or any kind of environment.

This one is very interesting as a lot of different views and perspectives have been used. there are shapes that appear to be doors and you could can actually see little walkways that are shuffeled together and it is impossible to know where to go.

I do like this drawing by Daniel Liebeskind although it does look a bit like random scribbles of lines. It still appears to be spacial through the positioning of the lines.

This is such a cool Drawing i find. The detailed lines and effectful usage of repitition and spacial qualities make it what it is. It looks very mechanical and yes it could remind of a machine part.

My Drawing.....
I do quite like this Drawing. I think composition wise it is successful and also the layering of the machine parts makes it appear quite complex.

I really love this drawing. With it i started to use the different scale options, mirroring and copy and paste. It reminds me of a sculpture and i can imagine it would be quite impressive having it in human size.

The drawing itself is a juxtaposition of parts and showing a play of dominance within the scale of the different parts

Mixed machine parts, Clouds, Machine Mouse and the previous first try....

This machine part is a play of drawings done in AutoCad and functions offered by AutoCad such as the 'cloud' tool that you see on the left. The machine parts are visible in the background but overlayed with a pattern. Within these patterns I had a machine part integrated including a play of colours. Through playing around with the functions I figured out how to delete certain parts of the filled in colour and eye-like shapes were left over. I like this machine part as i think the interplay of mechanical and biological patterns or shapes create an almost biomechanic machine. could improve on composition though.
This drawing is one of my favourite ones that i have produced. It is constructed out of several different drawings that i created in and outside class time. I played mostly with scale, rotation and copy and paste, which seem to be the three most important tools in computer programmes in general. I added a bit of colour once I had realized the resemblance to a mouse and created a tail and ears. This drawing was also done in the AutoDesk AutoCad programme and is part of our first drawing exercises.

This is a 1st try and it is very simple. the 1st machine part i drew, the one that looks like the sun, is the centre of this drawing. buzy clouds around it creating a cartoon-like appearance. Later we edited the black and white colour scheme and used block colour to blend the lines between the clouds and the sun part of the Drawing.
